...covering Australian comics
At least three stories in this issue originated as early Felix animated cartoons—Cold Rush (1 November 1925), Seeks Solitude (11 July 1926) and the Smoke Scream (8 January 1928, video available at www.britishpathe.com/.../felix-the-cat-the-smoke-scream) (See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_the_Cat_filmography).
While Sullivan's signature is on these stories, from the first daily strip in 1927 until mid-1931 the artist was probably Jack Bogle who is reported to have reinked Felix animation drawings to create comic panels. In 1931, Otto Messmer took over the daily straps with original art. (See www.intanibase.com/gac/felix/index.aspx.)
The original newspaper publication dates are not certain, but based on Monday to Saturday publication dates:
The story The Smoke Scream omits Reel 8 (8-17). Based on the animation and the usual story length, there should probably also be two more strips in the story.
