...covering Australian comics
Aged 23, Maynard left his hometown of Albury and joined the Victorian police. His earliest cartoons were published in the police journal and he contributed for about 10 years.
When his work drew the attention of the Australasian Post, Maynard submitted a cartoon that was published in 1958 (or 1959) under the title 'Ned and His Neddy'. As the 'Ettamogah Pub' featured increasingly, the series was renamed and ran until the 1980s. The cartoons inspired a chain of Ettamogah Pubs located in Albury NSW (1987), Sydney NSW (2003), Caloundra Qld (1989) and Cunderdin WA (2001).
Maynard also drew other cartoons for the Australasian Post and ACP’s Weekend (~1960) and its successor Everybody’s (1961-~1968).
The date of Maynard's death has been reported as 29 September. It was reported as 2 September in an obituary in The Australian on 4 September.
