Ben Bowyang/Gunn's Gully

Gunn's Gully (The Herald and Weekly Times Limited, 1938?) has been grouped as part of a series of titles with related contents.

The newspaper strip Ben Bowyang, created by Alex Gurney, debuted in November 1936, initially as full page strips in the Picture-News. The strip moved to the Sun News-Pictorial on 1 February 1940 and later appeared in The Melbourne Herald. It ceased publication in 1979.

Ben Bowyang was based on the "Gunn's Gully" humorous newspaper columns written in the 1920s and 1930s by C. J. Dennis of the Melbourne Herald. The strip was titled "Gunn's Gully" in some newspapers (such as Melbourne's Weekly Times, and Adelaide's The News), and a version of the 1938 annual reprint annual was also released with that title (reported by Roger Morrison as the NSW edition).

Over the years, the strip was drawn by Alex Gurney, Mick Armstrong, Keith Martin, Lionel Lindsay, Alex McRae, Peter Russell-Clarke and Sam Wells.
