Phantom Ranger

The Phantom Ranger (Frew Publications Pty Limited, 1952 series) has been grouped as part of a series of titles with continued numbering.

The Phantom Ranger was Frew's first locally-produced comic. Jeff Wilkinson created the series in 1949 and drew issues #1-19, with some early issues written by Eddie Brooker. From issue #20, Peter Chapman took over writing and drawing until 1960. Issue #155 is the last issue with original art. After a publication gap, subsequent issues continued with reprints.

The Phantom Ranger was also published under licence in the United Kingdom and South America. It generated a line of merchandise and was adapted into a radio serial starring Charles ‘Bud’ Tingwell in the early fifties.

Eddie Brooker also did work on Invisible Avenger before Peter Chapman took over that title.

The National Library of Australia reports Page Publications final issue as #209.
