Horwitz Romance
Make Believe Love (Horwitz Publications Inc., 1957?) has been grouped as part of a series of related series of one-shots.
These one-shot issues fall into a few stages over about five years from 1954/55 to 1959/60. Dating for each stage is still uncertain as only a few have any indication of publication dates.
1954-1955: The listed publisher is Transport Publishing Co. Pty. Ltd., with AGP branding (Associated General Publications) on the cover. There is no mention of Horwitz. These issues pre-date mid-1955 when Horwitz Publications was established and AGP and Transport consolidated under that single banner (see https://ausreprints.net/gallery/1732). The covers are on matte paper.
1955: Some issues list the publisher as Horwitz Publications Inc. and still have AGP branding on the cover. Typically, these say 'Published by Horwitz Publications Inc., 166 Phillip Street, Sydney, for and on behalf of Transport Publishing Co. Ltd.' These seem to be mid to late 1955. The covers are on matte paper. There is one issue without a brand, which seems to have happened early in this period for other Horwitz series.
1955-1958: The next batch are very similar with a listed publisher of Horwitz Publications Inc. on behalf of Transport Publishing Co. Ltd. However, they have Horwitz branding on the cover. It seems these are from late 1955 into 1956, 1957, 1958 and perhaps into 1959. The covers are on matte paper. Most of the one-shots fall into this group.
1958-1959: The next group have Horwitz branding and glossy covers and a slightly different page size. These seem to be 1958 and 1959, based on similar comics of other genres published by Horwitz. The listed publisher continues to be 'Horwitz Publications Inc… for and on behalf of Transport Publishing Co. Ltd.'
1959+: The final batch list the publisher as Horwitz Publications Inc. Pty. Ltd., with no mention of Transport. The cover has Horwitz branding. The covers are glossy. These are probably from mid 1959 onward.
