Ayers & James was an importer of US goods (including magazines) that transitioned to publishing during the period of WWII import restrictions. It produced a range of "Yank" titled comics, reprinted Classics Illustrated in Australia, and published some original Australian comics. Use of the publisher name ceased in 1953, but further comics were published under a range of trading names or successors—such as Red Circle Press, Illustrated Publications, Approved Publications and others.
Some publishers used diverse publisher names in their comics. These can reflect distinct operating divisions, but may just disguise operations in the face of bans or censorship. Ausreprints records minor variations as they can help dating for undated comics.
