From the introduction: "It is now twelve months since Sydney artist George Roots first drew "Wilbur" for Australian and New Zealand Newspapers. This is Wilbur's first appearance in book form, and it is hoped that he will make many new friends in addition to those already forllowing his humorous adventures in the daily press. --The Editor." Wilbur started appearing in newspapers as early as February 1947 and continued until some time after 1954.
