Ruth Carroll took over the weekly strip after the death of its creator Grace G. Drayton in 1936. Carroll continued with scripts by Ed Anthony until 1947. The series is loosly based on Anthony's children's book, The Pussycat Princess ( New York: Century Co. 1922).

The Pussycat Princess was printed in Australia in Melbourne's Weekly Times from at least 1939 to 27 May 1942. A note in the 10 June 1942 edition reported that "Owing to the conditions brought about by the war the Editor regrets that it is no longer possible to continue the publication of the feature "Pussycat Princess," which has been appearing in this section."

On Sunday 2 August 1942, the Sunday Times (Perth) announced that "In today's 'Sunday Times' magazine begins a new feature for the kiddies--'The Pussycat Princess.' This series is sure to delight the hearts of the young folk...' On 1 August 1943, the paper reported, "'Superman' acknowledged the most popular adventure strip in America has been secured for 'The Sunday Times' Comics. Today will be the last of the Pussycat Princess series and the series of breathless hair-raising adventures of 'Superman' will begin in our next week's issue."

In 1945, the Sunday Times announced the return of The Pussycat Princess commencing on 18 February. The strip continued until at least 28 July 1946.

At the time, neither of those newspapers was owned by Sir Frank Packer's Consolidated Press, the publisher of this comic.

From 1944 to 1945 (at least), The Pussycat Princess was published in colour in the Consolidated Press magazines 'Topic' (Brisbane) and 'Family and Teleradio' (Brisbane).

The strip was also published in colour in the Sunday Telegraph (Consolidated Press, Sydney) from as early as January 1945. An advertisement in the Australian Women's Weekly reports the strip in the Sunday Telegraph in December 1946 and it appears to have continued into 1947, the year the strip ended in the US.

The inside front and inside back covers of this comic is blank. There appears to be two versions of this comic with different back covers.
