The back cover reads: ‘Russ Bradley...a Canadian, joined the U.S. Army in 1941, and was shipped to the Philippines with one of the first contingents. After the fall...he fought a one-man war, and was one of the few to escape to Australia. He later transferred to the Canadian Army, and served in northern Europe after the invasion. After the war Bradley returned to Australia and settled here as a free-lance journalist; his stories are based on diaries he kept during the war, and is woven around some of his experiences during that
time.’
