In 'Pulp: A Collector's Book of Australian Pulp Fiction Covers' Toni Johnson-Woords reports 'In June 1950, Denny White of Calvert invited G.C. Bleeck to contribute to Calvert's magazine, Sports Shorts. For the next three years, Bleeck wrote horseracing, swimming, ice hockey, billiards, cycling, walking, speedway and boxing stories--something of his appeared in nearly every issue. For "Hoodoo Horse" Bleeck received £11-2/-, more than one week's salary for five days work.'
