Redondo was the eldest of eight children, He is the brother of well known comic artist Nestor Redondo. He started his artistic career as a staff and advertising artist on a newspaper.
From 1948, he had an extensive career in Filipino comics, including writing for Rex Samson and Tani. He established CRAF Publications with a group of writers and illustrators (Amado Castrillo, Tony Caravana, Virgil Redondo, Nestor Redondo, Alfredo Alcala and Jim Fernandez), which operated from 1963 to 1968.
In the seventies, Redondo began working for the US market through DeZuñiga Studio (~1972-1977). His work was published by DC (1972-1973), Pendulum Press (1974) and Marvel (1975-1977).
