Neary's career started at Warren Publishing in the 1970s.

He then worked with editor Dez Skinn for Marvel UK (Hulk Weekly), on 2000 AD ('Future Shocks') and for Doctor Who Weekly (1979-1983). He created 'Madman' for Warrior (1982) and became Alan Davis' inker at DC Comics (Detective Comics).

Neary was editor-in-chief of Marvel UK (1990-1993) helping launch Death's Head II, Hell's Angel (later Dark Angel), Warheads, Digitek and Motormouth.

He has since worked as inker with Bryan Hitch on The Authority (1999) and The Ultimates (2002-2007).
