Biography

Hepworth worked as a teacher at Colamba (near Chinchilla) in Queensland. By 1948 he was senior history and economics master at Brisbane Grammar School. He then studied education at Harvard University and graduated as Doctor of Education.

In 1951 he was appointed Education Officer with the Commonwealth Office of Education.

For Educational Press in Sydney he edited the The Australian Children's Newspaper (1953-1969) and associated annuals The ABC Children's Hour Annual #1-3 (1956-58) and The Australian Children's Annual #4-8 (1960-65). Monty Wedd provided many illustrations, cartoons and comics for his publications, including authoring a series of comic stories set in convict times.

In 1960 he established the Australian Reading Research Foundation to investigate and treat dyslexia.
