Born in Central Tilba, NSW, he studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney. He worked as a staff artist at Farmers Department Store, before joining K. G. Murray Publishers in 1936, contributing to Man magazine. He later served as an art director at George Patterson Agency. During the second world war, he worked as a camoufleur with the Department of Home Security in Darwin. His work spans watercolor, graphic design, and illustration. A collection of his work, including paintings, photographs, and, documents, is held in the Powerhouse Collection.
