Born in Barcelona, Clavé began his career in 1953 at Selecciones Ilustradas. He provided work to the British market, including Fleetway's Valentine. He also drew for the Catalan children's magazine L'Infantil.
From around 1966, he moved to France where he worked for publishing house Dargaud and collaborated with Guy Vidal. With François Gépral he created war stories featuring 'Rémi Herphelin' in Pilote from 1966. In the 1970s, he worked for Charlie Mensuel and Circus.
In the early 1980s, he returned to Spain and work for publishers Bruguera, De La Torre and Semic. He contributed to Cimoc and Comix Internacional, while continuing to provide work to the French market.
He is the older brother of Spanish comic artist Montse Clavé.
