Ben Barbary Thrillers (Illustrated Press Pty. Ltd., 1947 series) has been grouped as part of a series of titles with related contents.
This series regularly changed title and publisher name, although the whole series appears to have been published by Maxted and his Adelaide colleagues. The first numbered issue is #3.
Sold by the Millions: Australia’s Bestsellers (edited by Toni Johnson-Woods, Amit Sarwal, p. 164) reports that Maxted secured orders for 60,000 copies of Ben Barbary Bushranger, for which he received A£750 per issue from the distributors Gordon & Gotch. However, as competition intensified, sales slumped. Maxted recalled: "Circulations were not increasing and one by one… the Australian titles were dropping off the bookstands and you could see that… more American titles [were] coming on and they more or less took over".
