ACN 001 268 060. Mason Stewart Publishing was registered in 1974 (although reported to be established in 1965) and deregistered in 2000. The company is most known for publishing Australian Playboy.
After Kerry Packer found successs with Cleo in 1978, he secured the rights to Playboy. The first issue of Australian Playboy was published February 1979 and sold nearly 200,000 copies. Three years later, the licence transferred to Mason Stewart Publishing, best known until then for the surfing mag Tracks and rock magazine RAM.
In 1997, Mason Stewart was taken over by the British publisher EMAP, with Phillip Mason becoming non-executive chairman of EMAP Australia.
Issues of Tracks prior to about 1980 list the publisher as Soundtracts Publishing Pty. Ltd. and (possibly) earlier as Tracks Publishing Co Pty Ltd.
